Sea Glass Project

20th March 2024 – The Explorers are investigating oceans and how we can protect our wildlife. We’ve been having discussions on rubbish and littering as well as how we can clean up our beaches.

2nd April 2024 – After reading “Fantastic Creates of the Sea” by Mike Atkinson we looked at what items we should see and which ones we shouldn’t on the beaches. A conversation sparked around whether anyone has seen sea-glass on their adventures to the beach.

11th April 2024 – we researched different Types of sea-glass and how it is made. Jenny reached out to a sea-glass group and asked if anyone had some they’d be willing to send us. we were overwhelmed with the amount of responses …. A few weeks later we started receiving packages from all over the world. They not only wrote us letters and sent videos but also gave us multiple pieces of sea-glass to look at. After looking at all of the bright wonderful colours we decided to display them on our wall, adding a map to represent the various countries we received them from.

30th June 2024 – we researched the locations of each country and what their beaches look like. We were amazed to see the different terrains and wildlife native to each area.

12th July 2024 – While educator Lauren was on her holidays in Europe she found some sea-glass to bring back and show us. As well as educator Chelsea when she went to Sydney.

22nd July 2024 – The Explorers Room received a personalised video from ‘The Happy Picker’ on YouTube, of him finding the sea-glass and sending it to us. the children made him a bag and card to send thanking him for his generosity.
